A Photographer’s Guide to Kyoto, Japan The true beauty of Japanese culture comes to life in the traditional city of Kyoto. Wooded forests hide ornate temples and shrines, Geisha scurry into historic merchant houses on dimly lit alleys and misty mountains reveal their beauty throughout the seasons. A visit to Kyoto is like experiencing a glimpse into the past. With over 2000 temples and a huge number of UNESCO world heritage sites, the city is known as Japan’s cultural capital. Those hoping to witness the quirkier side of Japan will be kept busy too with Purikura (photo booths) and arcades, animal cafes and markets filled with weird and wonderful delights. Whether you’re looking to capture the cuisine, nature, traditions or bustle of Kyoto, there’s something photogenic for everyone. Depending on when you’re visiting Kyoto there will always be something to capture. The atmospheric festivals of summer, vibrant leaves of autumn, cherry blossom magic in spring and then there’s the chance of seeing a blanket of snow fall over the region in winter. If you can visit four times a year, I’d highly recommend it, you can never get enough of Japan in my opinion! In this guide I’ve listed some...

Iceland Photography Location Guide – Reykjavik to Hofn It’s a country where waterfalls, icebergs and volcanoes converge to create otherworldly landscapes. Iceland will take your breath away with natural beauty from the moment you arrive to the moment you fly over its dramatic coastline on your way home. It’s no wonder Iceland photography locations are high on any photographer’s wish list! Before we get started while this guide is titled from Reykjavik to Hofn, it actually includes a section a little further east to Djúpavogshreppur…that fabulous name is just a little too long for the heading! Exploring Iceland photography locations by car is the best way to see as much as possible and the southern coast is full of places to visit. You can snorkel between continents before driving east to experience endless waterfalls and glaciers, it’s the ideal destination for adventure travellers. The Ring Road from Reykjavik to Hofn is filled with photo stops, if you drove straight it would take about 6hrs to cover the odd 545kms however with so many places to see along the way, it’s possible to take 2-3 days…or much longer if you add on activities and hikes and want to take it slow!...

Travel in Queensland – The Tropical North Rainforest to Reef – Experience the natural beauty of Queensland, Australia with this guide to the most photogenic outdoor experiences you can have from the Atherton Tablelands to Cape Tribulation. Growing up in Australia, there was this one children’s book I remember being obsessed with called ‘Where the Forest Meets the Sea’ by Jeannie Baker. It described everything dreams as a little future explorer were made of with tangled trunks of giant rainforest trees hiding Dinosaur shadows in a land where the lush green landscapes met clear blue seas. It was like Where’s Wally for nature lovers, and 8yr old me was hooked. Well, now that I’m a travel obsessed adult, I’ve finally visited the exact place this book spoke of all those years ago…Tropical North Queensland. Spoilt with year-round warmth, rich colourful vistas and natural wonders, this part of Australia is a photographer’s haven for all things outdoorsy and beautiful. From the waterfalls to the reef, there’s so many places to visit to get amongst nature whether you’re hiking, swimming or flying high over the scenery. To sum up the regions photography offerings, I’ve put together a little guide below to what I...

Queenstown Photography Locations, New Zealand Be prepared to have your breath taken away by mountain scenery that’s simply inspiring from all angles. Flying into Queenstown is an experience in itself but the winding roads that venture through sheep filled paddocks, past river rapids and underneath snow-capped peaks are a photographer’s wonderland. This guide to Queenstown’s best photography locations is based on my experience from three visits in varying seasons. Just as the snow began to gently fall over the autumn coloured forests and harsh rocky mountain tops and twice in the middle of winter. Here are my picks for the best photography locations in and around Queenstown, New Zealand. I could easily list another 50 but if you’re visiting for a few short days or spending some time skiing on the slopes then these 18 locations will ensure you have a great range of landscape photographs to showcase the magic of real middle earth. As always, lets begin with a map so you know where you’re heading… Map: The Best Photography Locations in Queenstown #1 Wilson Bay To kick things off I’m listing my favourite spot first, Wilson Bay. A scenic cove nestled on the banks of Lake Wakatipu, it’s an...

Northern Arizona Photography Locations Expansive, inspirational and naturally beautiful, Arizona had me at A. Arizona photography locations include desert landscapes that meet canyons, mountains and even lakes to form one of the most photogenic regions I’ve ever visited, this guide is going to share some of the highlights. From the mighty Grand Canyon to Monument Valley, these locations are possible to visit over a few days provided you’ve got a car to get around and battery charger for your camera because you’ll need it! They’re iconic, wow inducing wonders that have to be seen to be believed and even then you’ll need to stare pretty hard to comprehend just how insanely immense these spaces are. As always with my photography location guides scroll down to find a map that lists all the spots mentioned within this guide, you can open it up in Google Maps and take it with you! MONUMENT VALLEY Rising in darkness, knowing you’re surrounded by natural monuments that will soon catch the morning light is one of the most exciting experiences a photographer can have. Monument Valley is one of Arizona’s highlights and a must visit location if you’re interested in Navajo culture and landscape photography. ...

An Iran Travel Guide for Photographers For the adventurous, curious and open-minded traveller, places still exist that exude a certain mystery and hidden beauty. Iran is one of those places, not typically found on many wish lists but somewhere that draws interest from photographers seeking a unique destination where natural wonders and architectural marvels meet. Odette Haye, travel photographer and author of the Omnivagant, has been kind enough to create this guide based on her experiences photographing in Iran. From the mountains in the North of Iran to the Persian Gulf, Iran is a country that is filled with the most rugged, pure and unique landscapes. Imagine deserts as far as the eye can see, snow topped mountain peaks and the most beautiful blue waters of the ocean. And while Iran’s nature alone is enough to book a flight to Iran, it is the city and the beautiful architecture of Iran that also should not be forgotten. Palaces, mosques and ancient cities with the most unique and beautiful details, it’s the combination of man made vs. natural sights that makes Iran a dream come true for photographers. Now, let’s get started with the most beautiful photography locations in Iran. To...

A Photographer’s Guide to Beautiful Places in Banff National Park, Canada Glacial Lakes – Waterfalls – Rugged Peaks + so much more! As mist wafts through the valley and snow capped peaks rise above reflecting turquoise lakes I couldn’t help but think to myself, that Banff National Park is perfection. The Canadian Rockies are one of those dream destinations for most photographers and from the very first glimpse, the mountains draw you in with their stoic presence and alluring beauty. Banff National Park offers all the scenic wonders you could ever wish to photograph and depending on your season of choice, you can experience ice caves, turqouise lakes, snow covered forests or lush green meadows. From Castle Mountain to Lake Louise and all the beauties of the lower Icefields Parkway, you could easily spend months exploring around Banff without repeating locations or trails. As a photographer, I know that priorities always lie in finding those ideal photo spots to capture a destination so my time in Banff was spent researching the best vantage points and photography locations in order to compile this guide. Yep, horrible job I know. Below you’ll find a map to my curated list of the best...

A Guide to Port Macquarie Photo Spots + Scenic Locations They say the further you go the more you’ll find but you know what…sometimes there’s also beauty lying right in front of your own doorstep. Having lived interstate and abroad for roughly 14years, I’ve recently had a desire to explore more of Australia. The coast, the centre, the rugged ranges and patterned landscapes. I’ve long known of the dramatic contrasts across the country but I knew little of the photogenic hot spots that lay around my own hometown. With a coastline of 17 beaches, Port Macquarie has so much natural beauty to explore and this past year I’ve finally had a chance to see where I grew up through my lens. Located just 4 hours drive north of Sydney, Port Macquarie is the type of place where families come for their holidays, where people choose to retire and where an active, outdoor lifestyle is the norm. It’s one of those coastal escapes people dream of when living in a city and luckily, it’s where I went to school and worked my first job as a journalist. Using it as my base (yes, I’m still travelling) this year has meant that...
