Wildlife Photography Adventures – Photographers Share Their Favourite Encounters Wildlife has a way of surprising us, making us wait for the moment, and displaying an array of behaviour, patterns, and experiences that have us smiling behind the lens. Our best images are often unplanned, fleeting, and also, a little humbling. From African plains to Austrian cemeteries, this collection of wildlife experience is compiled with work from the talented members of The Travel Photography Club. Each image reflects not only the beauty of the animals encountered but also the patience, creativity, and respect that go into photographing wildlife in the wild. Please note there is one image of an animal relocation for conservation purposes, an important experience that contributes to the welfare and future of the Black Rhino population. Scroll down to explore a wild world through the lenses of our talented members… The Experience: Photographing the Elusive Otters of Scotland Photographer: Suzanne Easton (Website | Instagram) Photographer’s Notes: The otters in Scotland are elusive. It takes time, patience and planning to see them. They emerge with the tides, hunting along the shoreline and in the shallows for crabs, fish and octopus. This otter had been moving along the shore in...

Photographing Sunrise Around the World Once the blue hour appears from hours of darkness, it’s likely there’s a photographer, perhaps thousands of them, packing their bags and venturing out to a location with one specific purpose. To photograph the rising sun. When the world is waking up, photographers are out and about scouring coastlines, alpine vistas and angles in cities all over, hoping for a golden glow that illuminates their chosen scene. The Travel Photography Club is now filled with both amateur and professional photographers from over 18 countries, I wanted to collate a series of images to feature their experiences, advice and locations for shooting sunrise. The notes shared within this post are written in the words of each photographer, relating to their experience, their thoughts, and location tips. Shall we take a little peek at the shimmering skies they’ve found? Location: Yamuna Ghat, Delhi Photographer: Peter Walmsley (Website) Sunrise Experience Notes: This image is taken from Yamuna Ghat: steps leading down to the Yamuna river behind the Red Fort in Delhi. Between November and mid-March, crowds of migratory seagulls from Russia descend on the Ghat tempted by the grain which is offered by the local boat...

Golden hour is such a beautiful time to have your camera with you. Whether you’re photographing from home, exploring landscapes in remote destinations, or out and about when magic strikes and you capture the sky illuminating from wherever you’re standing in that moment, there’s something so special about this time of day. Sunrise or sunset, it’s inspiring to capture the golden glow as details within a scene are sprinkled with light, shadowed, softly lit, or silhouetted. As photographers, we almost can’t bear to be indoors when the sky is on fire with colour, or when you know the sun is about to set at any minute, but you’re stuck in traffic. The thrill we feel when we’re in the right place at the right time, when an entire scene is awash with reds, oranges and deep yellow, it’s what we’re all seeking, for some of us, it’s the reason we pick up our camera. I recently asked the network of photographers via Travel Photography Courses to share their golden hour images. This collection below were stand outs and feature imagery from all corners of the world. Take a browse through their work, click through to see their Instagram accounts and...

Monthly Collection 06 ‘Coastal’ As one of my favourite photography subjects, coastlines provide something so inspiring and intriguing to capture. The endless movement of crashing waves, ever-changing tides, cliffs, sandy shores…I could go on and on. With so many coastlines in different regions of the world, I was so excited for the submissions this month and I wasn’t disappointed. Such a stunning collection of images were sent through and as always, I’m unable to publish them all but want to say a big thank you to everyone who sent one through. From light glowing above the Icelandic coast to soft pastel hues in Tasmania, Australia – scrolling through will make you want to head to the closest coast with your camera! Alongside each image is a link to the photographer’s portfolio or social media account so have a little peek at their work. I’d love for these monthly collections to grow as a place where photographers can showcase their work and connect with one another! Okay, let’s take a look at the collection this month… Photographer – Chris Gordon Location – Shark Bay, Western Australia Portfolio – Instagram Photographer – Veronika Seliverstova Location – Oostkapelle, province Zeeland, The Netherlands Portfolio...

Monthly Collection 03 Sunset Sunset, that time of day we’re drawn to photograph as the light turns from a golden glow to a soft dusk. The inspiring conditions lend themselves to capturing epic landscapes as the last rays of sunlight grace the peaks of mountains, as water glistens upon sandy shores and as subjects are illuminated in new ways. Working with light is both a form of creative expression and an understanding of the natural world. From Paris to Hiroshima and Squamish to Sydney, this month the collection is filled with sunset goodness from all corners of the world. I’ve loved seeing the submissions of photographers within The Wandering Lens community over the past three months and am so happy to see this project develop each month.

Monthly Collection 02 Sand We long for days by the sea with sand in our toes and the sun on our skin. To explore desert dunes, piled to the sky with sand as far as the eye can see in various formations of peaks and valleys. Sand is visually such a beautiful natural texture to photograph. It’s soft, ever-changing and shaped by the elements. The wind can pick it up and carry it to new ground. It can create patterned lines that tower toward the horizon, carve hidden features to make those of us behind the lens in search of the little details do a happy dance. This month for The Wandering Lens Community Collection the theme was ‘Sand’ and I put out the call via Instagram, Facebook and my Newsletter subscribers to ask for their best sand photo. Wow are you about to discover some talented photographers! From golden sands in the Sahara to the white beaches of Southern Australia and black sand beaches of Iceland, there’s such a stunning collection below. There’s something so gentle, elegant and mesmerising about snow in it’s many forms. From powdery puffs to stoic chunks frozen over time, it’s a photogenic element and one I personally love photographing. This month is the first of a yearly project that will feature the work of The Wandering Lens community, photographers from all corners of the world coming together to share work with a common theme. January kicks off with a focus on snow; snowy landscapes, forests, mountains and beautiful areas in their winter coat.
