Underwater Photography Project – Dubai With a skyline of towering man-made monsters, the coastline of Dubai is impressive from almost any angle. If you’ve been reading The Wandering Lens for a little while you’ll have noticed my obsession with one particular angle. The World from the Water. It’s a personal photography project I’ve been creating in locations around the world and since the project kicked off in 2014, Dubai has been on the hit list. Rarely captured from the water, the idea of blending the natural element of water with a world so sparkling and modern fascinated me. That this bustling city that’s grown so rapidly is resting on the shores of sandy beaches and calm seas. Photographing the skyline while bathing in the warm waters of the Persian Gulf felt like I had been given a private screening to Star Wars. I haven’t seen all of the films but the buildings reminded me of Galactic City, all shapes and sizes, so fancy and futuristic. Dubai Photography Guide Your quick guide to places for photography in Dubai Dubai with its dominating skyline and desert mysteries is somewhere that’s been on my radar for years. As a city known for its excessive wealth, glitz and the world’s biggest, greatest and grandest everything, it well and truly lived up to its reputation. Whether or not that’s a good thing depends on personal preference. For some, myself included, Dubai is a little overwhelmingly flashy. For others that’s what fascinates them, this seemingly perfect world of everything the heart desires all crammed into one mall. What that means thought is that if you visit and don’t want to spend your time inside a mall, you need to seek alternate activities and…there’s plenty of them to keep you occupied! Aerial Photography: Hot Air Ballooning in Dubai

Dubai Hot Air Balloon – Photography Experience Aerial photography has long been one of my fascinations. Seeing the world from above; the patterns, formations and colours of nature, it’s like mother nature has creatively laid out all her goods ready to capture. While I haven’t yet been totally won over by the idea of drone photography (I love the results just not the buzzing sounds), I usually stick to traditional methods of getting high such as helicopters, seaplanes and climbing mountains…actually let’s be honest, I spent more time struggling to climb mountains than I ever did on the actual peaks. One mode of transport I’d never taken was a hot air balloon. A floating basket high above the ground with no way of steering and only the wind to guide the way…yikes. But, last week in Dubai I couldn’t resist and since it was my birthday, treated myself and my camera to a balloon flight over the desert. Romantic.
