In reply to <a href="https://www.thewanderinglens.com/hoshinoya-kyoto-hotel/#comment-367938">Cris Pedrosa</a>.

Hi Cris, thank you so much for your comment and for reading this review, my apologies for such a delayed reply. If you're still planning your trip, I'd recommend at least 2 nights at the Hoshinoya Kyoto, I think that's enough to enjoy the serenity there and the experience of staying in such a spectacular, and culturally special property. I wouldn't say it substitutes a stay in Mount Koya though, as it doesn't have the accessibility to the monks and their morning prayer, which is such an experience to witness. If you're keen on spending time in nature and enjoying the peace of Arashiyama once the tourists have gone (it's crazy busy during the day but Hoshinoya Kyoto is upstream from the main tourist area), I'd recommend two nights there to enjoy the peace, then if you wanted to see the main sights of Kyoto, another 2 nights in town at least. There are so, so many areas in and around Kyoto to explore, I've been over 10 times and still find new places to see. Personally, I'd recommend trying to visit a few hidden gems away from the main iconic sights, places like Enkōji Temple, for example, are quieter than Kiyomizudera. Best of luck planning your trip, Japan always delights so I'm sure you'll have a wonderful trip!

Hi Lisa, thank you for your review about Hoshinoya Kyoto. How long would you recommend to say there? would 2 nights be enough? Would you recommend 2 nights in Kyoto (town) and another 2 nights here? How would you divide your time? And last question: would a stay here substitute a stay in Mount Koya or would you recommend both? Thank you in advance.
