Burano is like a rainbow lollipop of Italian goodness. A short ferry (Vaporetti) ride from Venice, Italy, this little gem sits proudly with such a distinctive appearance and joyful vibe that a visit is essential if you’re in the area. Stepping off the Vaporetti, the first thing I noticed wasn’t the colours, the boats or the canals, it was the smell of laundry so strong I couldn’t resist sniffing my way to the source. Following the scent I turned a corner and before me appeared a giant set of white linen sheets flapping in the wind and strung high across the street. As the sheets blew with a gust they revealed the entrance to a canal lined with coloured facades of blue, purple, red, yellow, green…then every shade in between. It was a laundry powder advertisement happening right in front of my eyes. I had come to Burano for the colours but was instantly taken by the laundry. Being a tad obsessed with colour and symmetry as I wandered the streets I noticed that almost every single home was hanging laundry from their window sills in that picture postcard kind of way. The homes appear to colour code their laundry...

THE BEST TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY LOCATIONS (FOR NOW) Written in 2016 by Lisa Michele Burns Travel photography confession: Have you ever been on a holiday with your partner only to spend more time with your camera? Yeah, me too. Completely guilty on multiple occasions actually! I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s not because you’re with the wrong person, it’s just that the destination is so inspiring and so beautiful that ignoring it would just be rude. So why not invest in your guilty pleasure and do a little research to improve your love of photography? Some destinations just have a wow factor. A warm light, historic features, dramatic coastline or mountain peaks that makes it near impossible to put your camera down. While there are always the obvious favourites, there are some places further afield that are worth a hike or road trip to photograph. I’ve put together a guide to my top 24 destinations around the world where you can take your camera on a romantic escape…oh and they’re just for you and your camera because really, they are so photogenic there won’t be much time for anything or anyone else, trust me! Unless they love photography too in which case the...

Pretty doesn’t begin to describe the Tuscan town of Siena. Perched on top of a hill overlooking rolling green fields with the Tuscan sun glowing down upon it, this Italian wonder is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Once you visit it’s easy to understand why. The medieval architecture, extravagant cathedrals and terraced houses that cascade down the hill are a dream to photograph. The atmosphere conjured up within the Piazza del Campo and along the winding streets almost says a welcoming ‘Ciao’ as you wander around. Colourful laundry hangs from window sills and cobble stoned pavements lead the way to historic corners of country charm. I visited Siena on a whim and jumped off my train to Florence to quickly explore for three hours with my camera. I don’t recommend this at all though…as soon as I saw the skyline of Siena I knew I needed a few days to explore and capture the many magical offerings. Be sure to give yourself at least a weekend to soak it all up! The town is relatively easy to explore if like me you are visiting on a tight schedule just be sure to have some idea of what you want to...

From tropical islands to desert plains, bustling cities and snow caves, the possibilities are endless when it comes to choosing your next destination to visit and photograph. To share a little of their worldly wisdom, I reached out to my favourite travel bloggers to reveal the one place they couldn’t put their camera down. I wanted to know where that incredible landscape, town, country or mountain range was that blew them away on their travels and kept them clicking the camera shutter. For some it’s an exotic African landscape and others it’s a special place closer to home…take a look below to discover the best places to photograph around the world according to these travel professionals! #1 Iceland: Kiersten Rich – The Blonde Abroad “Iceland is quickly becoming to go-to destination for travelers of all kinds, but particularly for photographers.

Imagine a world where you have a soundtrack perfectly composed to your tropical surroundings, echoing as you float from pool to beach to boat. As my seaplane landed on the turquoise waters at sunrise, the W Maldives Retreat and Spa sat like a beautiful mirage in the distance across the lagoon. Approaching the island shortly after landing the water suddenly turned from a deep ocean blue to a crystal clear aquatic wonderland so perfect I wanted to jump in fully clothed! The W Retreat Maldives is one of the hundreds of island resorts dotted across the coral atolls of this island nation in the Indian Ocean. Based on Fesdhoo Island, the W has its own chilled out vibe, something unique that makes it stand out amongst the rest and that is evident throughout the world of W Hotels globally. It’s simply cool. Each room has a surround sound system allowing the customised tunes to play as you slip into your private pool, bath tub or as you lounge on your rooftop deck. The décor is hip and trendy but still so damn comfy you don’t even need to leave your little oasis. I stayed in the Beach Oasis, a luxurious...

Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau in Photos This German village is the gateway to a land of fairy tales. Nestled amongst snow covered forests its where horse drawn carriages transport visitors to the immensely lavish castles perched high upon hills. Childhood fantasies of Sleeping Beauty’s castle come to life as you get your first glimpse of Neuschwanstein Castle through the pine trees. The towering castle is the epitome of Disney magic and was the home of King Ludwig II who commissioned the palace as a personal retreat. Open to the public since his death in 1886, Neuschwanstein Castle has seen over 61million visitors though still manages to retain that intriguing luxe charm of a royal private residence (except for the inclusion of a food court which I can’t get my head around!?). For me, far more impressive than the interior are the views and photographic opportunities from Marienbrücke (Marie’s Bridge), a short hike up hill from the castle. Dangling over a ravine the bridge offers panoramic views of the castle, lakes and down below are cascading waterfalls weaving their way through frozen creek crevices. Walking through the dense woodland brings scenes of the folkloric tales of Brothers Grimm into reality. It’s...

The Maldives. These two words conjure up visions of lush palm beaches and coral atolls. A dream destination infamous for honeymooners, luxe bungalows and more importantly crystal clear water perfect for photography! As my flight from Singapore descended my head was stuck to the window in the hope of seeing one of the 1,190 coral atolls that make up the island nation of the Maldives. A communal ‘oooo’ echoed around the plane as we all saw the shining teal seas glistening upon strips of sand and reef visible for miles. Ahoy, paradise! Malé International Airport (Ibrahim Nasir Airport) is located on its very own island making the transfer to anywhere an exciting first adventure. Ferry boats and seaplanes line the terminal building waiting patiently in the surrounding waters to take honeymooners to the hundreds of island resorts or nearby Male City. I was visiting the country for the first time to photograph at three island resorts, each unique in their styling and location within the atolls. First up was One&Only Reethi Rah, this incredible resort in North Male’ Atoll had been on my radar for a few months and I knew it would be the ideal place for underwater photographs....

Tokyo is Japan’s bright shining star, a city of neon lights, towering skyscrapers, sushi and a culture that’s a magical blend of quirky and traditionally quaint. You can’t leave Tokyo feeling the same as when you arrived. A visit will overwhelm and excite with innovation, surprise with characters and treat with fascinating edible creations. Japan has long been in my top five favourite countries ever since I joined a home stay program at school and lived with a Japanese family in Sapporo on the island of Hokkaido, one of the best experiences of my life. I love stopping in Tokyo even if it’s just for a weekend so here are a collection of images to get you dreaming of a trip to the city where anything is possible…even a Batman sighting.

Hello from the sunny island nation of the Maldives! I arrived five days ago and it’s taken me this long to pinch myself and realise I’m actually here. Really. The first two days were spent in utter disbelief that this paradise exists, taking thousands of photographs to try and convince myself it’s reality. Below is a small collection of images from my Instagram feed @the_wanderinglens where I’ve been sharing my adventures from the One&Only Reethi Rah resort both above and below the water. Shortly I’ll be posting a guide on how to take underwater photographs and it will be filled with examples from this trip…including turtles which I was lucky enough to swim with this morning!

If you find yourself in Italy, don’t skip Verona. Even if it’s just an overnight stop this gem is well worth the visit just to sit with your legs dangling over the walls of Piazzale Castel San Pietro and photograph as the sun sets over the entire city. Pretty little Verona holds it’s own amongst the big nearby names of Venice and Florence when it comes to romance, drama and medieval architecture. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet remains the cities hallmark but just as loved up are the streets filled with fresh flowers blooming out of their tin buckets and the flowing Adige River which cascades through the city under bridges. The city is actually a UNESCO World Heritage Centre with it’s inclusion due to “Verona being an outstanding example of a town that has developed progressively and uninterruptedly over two thousand years, incorporating artistic elements of the highest quality from each succeeding period.” Here are some photographs to inspire your next visit to Verona, Italy!

At first sight they are overwhelmingly beautiful, standing tall amongst the breaking waves they demand attention. I stood on the platform for about 30minutes just looking in every direction soaking up the coastline and landscape before taking a single photograph. That was until the sky began to...
