If you find yourself in Italy, don’t skip Verona. Even if it’s just an overnight stop this gem is well worth the visit just to sit with your legs dangling over the walls of Piazzale Castel San Pietro and photograph as the sun sets over the entire city. Pretty little Verona holds it’s own amongst the big nearby names of Venice and Florence when it comes to romance, drama and medieval architecture. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet remains the cities hallmark but just as loved up are the streets filled with fresh flowers blooming out of their tin buckets and the flowing Adige River which cascades through the city under bridges. The city is actually a UNESCO World Heritage Centre with it’s inclusion due to “Verona being an outstanding example of a town that has developed progressively and uninterruptedly over two thousand years, incorporating artistic elements of the highest quality from each succeeding period.” Here are some photographs to inspire your next visit to Verona, Italy!

Growing up in Australia there have always been a few special places I’ve wanted to visit but somehow I ended up on the other side of the world instead. The Great Ocean Road sat pretty on my list for long enough and driving from Melbourne airport I was singing loudly to the radio with excitement about what lay ahead after I decided to finally see this rocky coastal wonder. I took the inland route to ensure I arrived smack bang in the middle of the scenery at the ‘wow’ inducing Twelve Apostles. Rolling green hills tumbled down toward the cliffs edge and a giant gust of cold ocean air met me as I wandered the path to the viewing platform. Formed by erosion due to the harsh southern swell and winds, the Twelve Apostles are a collection of limestone stacks off the shores of Port Campbell National Park and boy are they impressive. At first sight they are overwhelmingly beautiful, standing tall amongst the breaking waves they demand attention. I stood on the platform for about 30minutes just looking in every direction soaking up the coastline and landscape before taking a single photograph. That was until the sky began to...

Behind the medina walls, the city of Marrakech reveals a hidden world of maze like alleyways filled with speckled light, colourful characters and endless photo opportunities. While it’s tempting to click away like a crazed tourist to capture what’s happening in every direction (because trust me, there will be something worth photographing), sometimes photographing the finer details can be a great way to tell the story of a destination. When in Marrakech this past March, I wandered the city to capture patterns, carved monuments, colours and textures that represent this incredibly diverse and mysterious city. Photographing the details of a city is a little different to wide landscape shots because you’ll need to focus and compose the image depending on the intended result you wish to achieve. If you’re hoping to showcase an intricate design that’s been hand carved into camel bone, think about which part of the design will look best on its own, will separating it from the rest of the feature enhance or diminish the effect? Will cutting the design break up the pattern or can you fit the entire object into your frame to achieve the ideal angle? A great little lens for detail shots is...

Camera Gear + Photography Equipment I Use One thing I always wish is that I had a Mary Poppins Camera Bag, anyone else on the same page? A bag that fits endless amount of gear, is super light to carry no matter what you have inside and you can just throw it all in without a worry in the world about airline carry-on limits. Ah, wouldn’t that be just perfection! Well, it unfortunately doesn’t exist (although my bag comes pretty close!) and is the reason why I get so many questions about what’s in my bag when photographing on the road. I have found a few solutions that I use, so hope the below information will help you on your next adventure! We’ve all been there before, you arrive at the check-in desk thinking you’ve totally got it sorted this time, your luggage will meet all the requirements and your camera gear is nice and snug, safe for the journey ahead. Then they weigh it and it’s been eating a little too much cake. You have to either pay for extra luggage allowance or shuffle the gear around in front of everyone wrapping lenses into your underpants to ensure they...
