Paris Photography: Eiffel Tower Photos Where to take the best Eiffel Tower Pictures… Paris is somewhere that always manages to sparkle no matter how many times you photograph it. It’s one of those fascinating cities that feels like it’s constantly changing even though it remains in the same beautiful historic state and the Eiffel Tower is one of those unique icons that never gets old, it is simply spectacular. Every visit to Paris offers a new chance to see the city and all of its charms from a new angle, in a different light or even with fresh eyes. When it comes to photography locations in Paris, there’s so many to list that it would take a collection of encyclopedia’s to really cover them all. Is it just me that still thinks encyclopedias are cool? Anyway, I published a guide to the best Paris photo spots two years ago and it’s one of the most popular articles on The Wandering Lens. This time I want to delve a little deeper into fourteen of my favourite perspectives you can take photos of the Eiffel Tower, sharing a few places that offer great views of this mighty icon. A little tip –...

Step into the streets where boutiques blend with galleries, museums and national monuments, the Left Bank of Paris… Walking in Paris along the left bank of the Seine feels a little like floating on air…or cobblestones in this case. The atmosphere makes you want to do a little twirl in the street, maybe that’s just me though and I’ve seen Midnight in Paris too many times? Nonetheless, it’s fashionable, historic and even if you’re in full tourist mode with a camera slung over your shoulder and comfy shoes, it’s somewhere you can wander within an artistic community and feel inspired. When photographing Paris, the left bank (La Rive Gauche) is somewhere you need to see, offering an insight into the 5th, 6th and 7th arrondissements, plus the 13th, 14th and 15th if you wish to explore a little further. For reference, the Eiffel Tower is located in 7th and you’ll also find Les Invalides, Musee d’Orsay, Luxembourg Gardens and Tour Montparnasse which offers one of the best views in Paris. Starting from Pont des Coeurs near Notre Dame, take a wander through the alleys of Saint-Michel, working your way towards Place Saint-Sulpice. You’ll stroll past photogenic cafes, street scenes and...

Want to create photographs that make your friends want to jump in the image and be there with you? When visiting a new destination there is always a check list of major attractions, monuments and sights to visit and taking a photo to say you’ve been there is all part of the fun. Sure taking a quick snap on your phone can be a great way of quickly sharing the moment with everyone back home but what about creating an image that makes people want to step right into the photo and enjoy the view with you? Places like the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben and Times Square have all been photographed probably a billion times over and it’s probably safe to assume that more than 80% of these images are very similar in appearance. When composing a photograph of anything whether it be travel, people or landscapes you can make it a little more interesting for those viewing and for yourself by thinking outside the box and looking for alternate angles to light up the scene in front of you. Let’s take the Eiffel Tower in Paris as an example. It’s one of the most recognisable monuments in the world...

Where are the best Places to Photograph Sunset? As the day comes to and end and the sky erupts into a palette of pinks, oranges and reds you want to be in the right spot at the right time to capture the perfect sunset that completes your travel album. While not every sunset is going to be a photographers dream, the golden hour is beautiful regardless and I’ve put together this list of my top ten favourite locations to photograph the setting sun around the world… From Iceland to Australia, this list is a collection of images I’ve personally taken in these locations, I know there are many, many more places that could be included. If you’ve got recommendation for sunset photo locations, please share your spot in the comments below, you’re more than welcome to link to your photos too! #10 Marrakech, Morocco Dusty desert sands and red ochre buildings make Marrakech an easy inclusion for this list. Combining the colours of the city with the sky at sunset blends together the perfect portrayal of magical Morocco. You’ll find most riads (traditional hotels) have private rooftop terraces from where you can photograph sunset over the city or if you’re...

Photographing Paris with a 50mm lens! Where bicycles pedal past boulangeries, buildings exude elegance and your camera will be snap happy all day long. This month it’s a special ‘Setting the Scene’ post because rather than focusing on a certain environment, I’m sharing tips about street photography from Le Marais in Paris. Known as a hip, historic and generally laid back quartier of Paris, Le Marais is the perfect place to wander with your camera capturing daily life in this fascinating city. Street photography has a broad definition but I like to bring it back to something simple, photography in a street. Too simple? Basically any photography taken in a street, of a street, in a city where a street is visible…I consider street photography. It can be of buildings, people, moving scenes, whatever you want! So let’s get started on some tips for setting the scene to capture street photography with Paris as our example. Planning the Location + Time Le Marais is photogenic regardless of the time you visit however to capture a series of unique images it’s best to time your shoot. I love the mornings, when people are riding their bike to work, picking up a...

With La Vie En Rose playing in the background I watched as the Eiffel Tower sparkled before me. To say it was magical is an understatement. Sure Paris is the city of love and a moment like that would probably be best shared with my partner, but as a photographer there’s something else that keeps me company. My camera. Yeah, I know, you probably guessed that. Just a tad obvious. I can’t just watch from my window as the lights glimmer and dance. While I sometimes force myself to put it down, usually the only time I do so is when I’m shooting time lapses. This is something I’ve only just started doing, more for fun than anything too fancy just yet. I love the way a series of images can turn into a moving picture. That you can control how fast or how long it moves for and that everything looks just that little bit cooler! I think because I’ve always watched clouds move across the sky, the possibility that I can capture this is super exciting. With the Eiffel Tower as my subject and changing clouds behind, I was fixated to my window as the scene unfolded each...

Imagine a palace all to yourself where you can roam the halls, slide down banisters and wander secret passages. Well, this isn’t exactly what we experienced at the Chateau of Versailles. Meeting up with Brooke from World of Wanderlust we had envisioned something a little different when planning somewhere to take our Olympus cameras for a spin. Being a Sunday, there was almost half of Paris there to roam the halls of Versailles with us, it’s great to have company and all but wall to wall iPhones in the air can get a tad in the way. Breezing through the Chateau we snapped photos when a clear space appeared, ever on the look-out for that beautiful interior angle that showcased the grandeur of Versailles. With the halls being so full, I started seeking shots out the window. Using the historic artwork and sunbeams to compose images rather than worrying about the tour group flags flapping in front of me. A huge plus about the palace interiors though is that particular sections are cordoned off allowing you to capture images of features such as Marie Antoinette’s bedroom and beautiful artwork without anyone in your shot. Everything changed once we entered the gardens....
