I Know A Place… Where waves rumble against craggy cliffs as the wild Atlantic Ocean meets the rugged Scottish Coast. Where the salty breeze curls your hair and the windswept scenery takes your breath away. Where a single wooden arrow nailed to a fence post points in the direction of where you need to go. Cross the sheep field and the paddock with highland cows and you’ll find it. The place, is Mangersta Bothy, also known as Eagle’s Nest. On the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, at first sight it feels like you’ve discovered a pirate cave of secrets. But alas it’s a bothy. Perhaps the best bothy in all of Scotland. Scotland is known for its bothies; rustic shelters typically made from stone that offer protection from the elements. Built for farmers, avid hikers, cyclists or outdoor enthusiasts who don’t appreciate a comfy bed, bothies can be found dotted all over the islands, highlands and most regions of Scotland. If you like your bothy with the luxury addition of sea views, Eagle’s Nest is the one for you. About the Mangersta Bothy Built around 1996 by local residents John and Lorna Norgrove, the bothy sleeps two people...

The Lofoten Islands and their mighty mountain ridges rise from the Arctic Sea forming one of the most impressive landscapes on earth. For photographers, Lofoten is becoming quite the bucket list destination and it’s really not hard to see why. Every fjord offers an alternate perspective of epic cliffs reflecting in the chilly yet clear water below. The contrasting colours of aquatic hues blending with the striking shades of rock and snow create a canvas that’s hard to ignore. With the weather conditions changing every few minutes, the Lofoten Islands are an ever-changing subject. One minute you’ll have blue skies and sunshine glowing across the ice covered beaches, the next a storm will roll in producing moody skies and dramatic scenes. I’ll be sharing a guide to some of the best photography locations shortly along with a visual review of the best place to base yourself on a trip to the region. For now though, I just wanted to share the landscapes of Lofoten in all their snowy, moody and rugged goodness. A collection of images without the cute cabins, the fishing villages or the roads leading into the distance, just landscapes of Norway’s photogenic coastline. All images photographed with...

Let’s begin with the thought of camping…now add in all the little luxuries you could ever want for a night sleeping outdoors. Furthermore add visions of a tropical island lagoon, lush rainforests and twinkling star filled skies. The place you’re imagining exists. It’s called Ikurangi Eco Retreat on the island of Rarotonga. Waking to the sound of roosters, a gentle sea breeze wafting over the sheets and the smell of fresh pastries outside the tent I thought quite possibly I was dreaming. When did camping get so plush? As the first glamping site in the Cook Islands, Ikurangi has set the bar high up in the coconut palms. There’s no roughing it, here you get to experience all the outdoor magic of camping but rest your head on a soft pillow and queen size bed inside a bug-free glamourous safari tent. The best part? A private outdoor bathroom! Thatched walls and a open air decked area mean you can clean your teeth as the palms sway above and use eco-luxe products made from coconut and vanilla while you shower beneath the stars. Unzipping your tent at the front reveals views toward the mountainous core of Rarotonga as chickens roam freely...

New Zealand is a country fit for outdoor adventures. As the snow covered landscapes unfolded before our eyes and the mountain peaks appeared one after another, we let out the usual ‘eeek’ of excitement about the days of exploring we had ahead. Wandering through rivers, lakes and fields filled with sheep we spent every waking minute outside with gum boots on our feet and a red jacket on to keep warm. Wind proof, water proof and of course picture ready, the red jacket will be a fixture in my photos as I explore colder climates around the world. For now, take a peek into the first red jacket journal amongst the landscapes of Queenstown and Wanaka, New Zealand… Want your own red jacket? Mountain Designs is where the goods are at! For the exact jacket pictured, take a peek here – Lipstick Red GORE-TEX Jacket Don’t forget to use the hashtag #thewanderinglens to share your adventures on Instagram! Thanks to Mountain Designs for providing the perfect jacket for my project…where to next!? Finnish Lapland perhaps…

Stepping on board a crisp white luxury catamaran as the village of Oia sat pretty on the cliffs above and the water below glistened in the sunlight. It was always going to be a good day. On my recent visit to Santorini, I jumped at the chance to hop on board with Santorini Yachting Club for a sail and swim in the caldera. It was also the perfect opportunity to photograph the cliffs and coastline of this photogenic island from the sea! Kicking things off at the scenic port of Ammoudi Bay we sailed in the gentle breeze toward the volcano for a dip at the hot springs. The calm waters of the caldera are perfect for lounging on the deck in the ropes as the water rushes underneath. Sailing below the giant cliffs of Santorini, there’s something so intriguing about gazing at an entire village from the sea. With Fira, Imerovigli and Oia all visible, it’s easy to get lost imagining what’s happening way up there as you drift along beneath. Anchoring at Mesa Pigadia which is located just beside the infamous White Beach, we jumped off the boat for a swim in super clear water while the skipper...
