It sounds to me like you'd be a very good person to travel with Sarah. I love that you take the time to soak it all in and your last comment about shedding a tear with your first born is so beautiful! Wishing you a sky filled with Aurora :)

In reply to <a href="https://www.thewanderinglens.com/social-media-impact-of-instagram/#comment-13000">Kendelle</a>.

Love what you've written Kendelle, the slower trips and spots you discover along the way always seem to be my favourites too! I'd still 100% recommend going to Iceland, if you can though hire a car and drive to the eastern fjords past Hofn, or up to the western fjords for truly epic landscapes away from the crowds.
Otherwise, enjoy making plans for an adventure, that's always one of the fun parts too :)

Thank you so much for such a lovely comment Pam! It makes me really happy to hear when guides have been useful and I'm very excited for the upcoming trip you have planned too :)
Great to hear how Instagram works as a tool of inspiration for you, I agree that it's definitely this and equal parts motivating to an extent.

Thanks for sharing your process Jack! It's definitely a personal thing and I'm totally with you about trying to get away from other photographers shooting the same scene. I like to avoid tripod wars at all costs just to seek out some creative angles instead but more often than not tend to find that no matter how many photographers you have in a single spot, they'll probably all capture something a little different, I like to think so any way :)

Enjoy Kyoto, it's one of my favourite cities in the world but unfortunately millions of others feel the same lol! Have you been up at sunrise? Also if you get a chance to visit Arashiyama, take a walk along the river banks on the monkey park side and about 30mins along there's an incredible hidden temple far away from the crowds :)

Agree entirely! Am in Kyoto at the moment and actively am avoiding the “popular” places as it just seems pointless when the main sights are mobbed. Still gorgeous empty streets to wander though if you’re prepared to just get lost.

In reply to <a href="https://www.thewanderinglens.com/social-media-impact-of-instagram/#comment-13010">Marty</a>.

Thanks for sharing Marty! Love your comment about becoming desensitized to the beauty, I think this is a really strong point and sometimes feel myself being underwhelmed by a place that maybe looks better in photos I've previously seen. It's a shame but all a matter of perspective so I think having time to explore probably helps discover more elements of the beauty that exists :) great to hear you're discovering a new found appreciation of portraiture!

What a great read Lisa, couldn't agree more with some of your points! "You don't have to have outfit changes and twirl around, to hang out of helicopters for a foot dangling photo" ahahaha YES!

Love it when photographers open up about this topic, always so intriguing to learn about everyone's perspective on the direction of travel and influence of social media, whether positive or negative, on the travel industry.

Banff - another perfect case study of overtourism. 10,000 residents, 4 million tourists annually! Not that I’m complaining, I absolutely love that this place is so accessible and that so many people get to experience this beautiful part of the world. What I don’t love is like you said, people going off trail, interacting with wildlife and hustling to get that perfect Moraine Lake shot! Lucky for me most people don’t venture far from the tourist hot spots. As long as I’m happy to throw on my hiking boots and walk for a few hours I can usually find a beautiful part of the National Park to have all to myself.
