Hi Sandrine, the classic view is Machu Picchu Mountain and Huayna is the mountain you can see behind so it offers a different viewpoint looking back across the valley :)

Hello! Which is the ticket you need to see this view, as you can choose between Machu Picchu + mountain and Machu Picchu + Huayna Picchu? Thanks and best regards, Sandrine

Thank you for highlighting this issue Nils. I'll be sure to update the article with a note for future visitors. It's not just Machu Picchu facing this issue but places like Iceland are also suffering from an overload of tourists walking off the path and damaging the environment. It's good to see they are putting measures in place in an attempt to tackle the problem.

I enjoy reading your blog, but I noticed that the author fails to inform readers that Machu Picchu is an endangered site. He also fails to mention that it is imperative that photographers DO NOT CLIMB the structures or wander outside designated areas. Machu Picchu is on the verge of collapsing under an ever increasing stream of visitors. I was there a few years ago and I could see why this location is endangered. Many ignorant tourists and photographers were clambering over the walls and they were walking in places where they shouldn't be, only to get that perfect shot or selfie. This ignorant behavior takes a heavy toll on the site. Walls and structures are damaged and the site suffers from erosion. This is an important issue to address, and I would appreciate it if the author would mention it in his article. Machu Picchu is an amazing location, but it won't be there for future generations if photographers behave in an irresponible manner.

Beautiful photos! That light is just gorgeous. I completely agree with you that no two photos of the same place are ever the same. Everyone sees things a little differently and I think that comes through in the photo.

Great tips on visiting Machu Picchu, too. It'll probably be awhile before we make it there ourselves, so chances are the rules will have changed again by then, but hopefully llama selfies will still be unrestricted. ;)

As you said very well, no two landscape photos are ever the same and I very much agree with you. As much as I try to have my own style and look for original spots, there is no shame in recreating *that* postcard angle everybody else has photographed for ages. Yours is meant to be special to yourself, so who cares. I have a picture of the Brooklyn Bridge that is so shamelessly classic. Black and white, almost cliché. Yet it's my favourite photo I took in New York, it summarises the 2 months I spent there and I love it so much I printed it large and it hangs on my wall. And I don't care it's just another postcard photo. It's my postcard photo :)

I would love to go to Machu picchu and get that shot of Llama and of course those terraces. Looks like a photographers dream, It might be hard to get up there with all the equipment though!

Your photos are absolutely exceptional! Wow! And thank you for sharing where to snap the best shots of Machu Picchu. I agree that lighting is often best during sunrise and sunset.
